The Baby Bottle Tooth Decay
Tooth Decay | The Baby Bottle
Baby bottle tooth decay, usually known as tooth decay among infants and children at a young age, seems to be expected. Well, I can’t recall any child in this matter who was born and, at the same time, had a perfect set of white teeth growing up. Mostly, what is remember when I think of childhood are the concepts of a missing tooth and the famous tooth fairy. As I grew older, I realized that tooth decay is normal. But it is also something that we can all avoid, beginning from infancy and going through childhood.
Baby bottle tooth decay happens when an infant or a child consumes a natural sugar, and some portion of it remains between the teeth. This type of sugar may come from many things such as milk, juice, and all other possible drinks or even soft food. The bacteria inside the moth then use this sugar to reinforce its power and thoroughly weakens and attack the actual teeth. This is particularly striking at bedtime since there is a decrease in the saliva flow, enabling the bacteria to settle. So, what can we do to refrain the baby tooth decay? Here are some simple tips!
Proper cleaning.
Clean the gums using a washcloth or gauze pad after feeding. When there is already a tooth, begin brushing it using fluoride-free toothpaste. You may also start doing some flossing when previously applicable.

Massage the gums.
Areas of the gums which do not have teeth yet may be cleaned and massaged. This will reinforce the healthy growth of incoming teeth and overall oral health.
Enough fluoride.
Though the toothpaste should be fluoride-free for babies, the fluoride content within the teeth should still be maintained. So, ask the doctor for a possible supplement of things to do for this matter.
Visit the dentist.
A maintained dentist visit could help you ensure that your child’s teeth are on the proper track. At the same time, make your child feel comfortable about it so they won’t feel scared or ashamed of visiting the dentist.
Make use of the bottle correctly.
Bottles are intended for milk or formula. So, avoid using it in feeding your child juice or any other sweet drinks. Also, be sure to let the bottle be filled with water as the child goes to sleep to neutralize the sugar in between the teeth.
The Baby Bottle Tooth Decay
Developing healthy oral hygiene will lead to the growth of a better and much-healthier set of teeth come childhood and eventually heading to the teenage and adulthood stage. If it means beginning early in battling tooth decay as soon as infancy, all efforts will be paid off in the end. The tooth fairy is undeniably a fascinating story to listen to and to believe. But if we can make some efforts to ensure that the child’s teeth are healthy, then there is nothing wrong with it. After all, the baby bottle tooth decay is something that we can do something about.
