Good Values To Teach Your Kids for the Holidays
Good Holiday Values to Teach Your Kids
The toddler stage is where your child should be learning positive values that they can bring throughout their lives. It is now the right time to teach them what is right and wrong, and the song “Give love on Christmas Day” is the perfect song to summarize the most important values that any child needs to learn.
Good Values To Teach Your Kids for the Holidays
The value of giving/sharing
“People are making lists, buying special gifts.”
The first part of the song mentions that it is the season that people are buying gifts to give to everyone they can think of – from family, friends, or to anyone. Try asking your kid who’s their favorite person of the year or who he wants to give gifts to. Kids are not yet exposed to many people, so they might answer some relatives or playmates that you surely know – and maybe part of your list as well. Show your kid that you bought something for them. These things can make your kid remember and makes him do the same things when he’s at the right age.

The value of appreciation
“Even the man who has everything would be so happy….”
The second part of the song says that anyone will appreciate anything. If your child receives something that he doesn’t like, explain to him that he should understand the time and efforts that the sender did. Try telling him this, “Remember the gift we bought for (name of a playmate), what if he doesn’t like it? What would you feel?” By asking these things to your child, he will think that it doesn’t feel good if the receiver will not appreciate the gift, so in return, he will start enjoying everything he will be receiving from now on.

The value of friendship
“People you don’t know, smile and say hello…”
This part of the song shows us that people are friends with everyone on this season. Tell your kids that it is essential not to have someone he’s angry with this season. Maybe there is one playmate he doesn’t like? Or he’s angry with a sibling who’s been teasing him on most days of the year? Explain to your kid that it is now the time to make friends with them again; that having hard feelings for someone will make him naughty on Santa’s list.

The value of love
“No greater gift is there than love… Yes, the world needs more love.”
We are sharing material things that are not the main focus of the season. Show your kid that aside from the physical gifts he will be receiving, the love for and from others is more important. Mention things like why we are celebrating this season and who is the main star of the season. Teach him who Jesus and God are and impose on them the value of love that our Creator gave us from the beginning. Always explain to your child that the best value that he can have is the value of love – because, with love, all other values will follow.
